My dear Russell
When I first met Russell, he was a total Crossfit bro. One of the first things he said to me was “Confidence is everything”. The first time I opened his fridge, he had 1 bottle of beer, some Chick-fil-A sauce, and a frozen package of something that had long been iced over (he swears it was chicken). On the outside, he really was such a bro! But I saw his true character in the way he talked with people and about people, and the way he listened to people. Russell is respectful, always respectful. He is kind and gentle and grateful. He is a giver. After dating for a couple of weeks, I told him he was going to be my husband, and he said “yes, ma’am”. I didn't hear an audible voice from heaven, but in our hearts we both knew even before we started dating that this was the beginning of forever. I’m not saying that every good love story should be like this, because love blossoms like a rose, sometimes fast and sometimes slow. But in our love story, we both just knew.
Last year, for his birthday, I wrote on his cake "27 is gonna slay like Bey!", and I wasn't kidding. In the last year, we got engaged, he got to marry the woman of his dreams (haha! not kidding), we moved into our downtown home, he got a promotion, and we traveled to the four corners of America. This year, to try to top last year's birthday wishes, I have to go with something a little more in-depth. What better way to wish a HBD to someone than to post every photo you own of him - especially the embarrassing ones. So here's to you, Russell, may your 28th year be your best yet!
Here are some of my favorite qualities of my dear husband, Russell: He is my partner in life. Whatever goals are his, they are mine as well. Whatever goals are mine, they are his as well. If an opportunity is beneficial for one but detrimental to the other, we do not follow it. Anything we face, we face it as one unit, working together. We are one.
And he is my spiritual partner and the leader of our household.
He is amorphous. He is not only willing to change, but he makes himself change because of his strong desire to grow and improve.
He loves dumb humor.
He is a 1 Corinthians 13 husband:
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.”
He hates lipstick. If you're scratching your head about why I love that he hates lipstick, you must not be married. It's my sole privilege to annoy this man every day for the rest of our lives. XO!
He is well disciplined.
He secretly relishes playing dress-up.
And he secretly enjoys going to the opera.
He totally doesn’t get "it" sometimes…like that one time he took me to Vegas, and I just knew he would propose…and then he didn’t. And he had no clue why I was mad. HELLO?!
He is the most even-tempered person I’ve ever met. I’ve seen him cry exactly once, but oh boy was it a good’n!
He has exactly one hobby: making money. He is the only person I know who would ask for this book for a birthday present: "Profit by Investing in Real Estate Tax Liens".
He cherishes good friendship and godly counsel.
He is kind and gentle, which balances out my spiciness.
He lets me indulge in the magic of Disney. He is an Ephesians 5 husband:
“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her, that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the Word, so that He might present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.”
He can rock a suit! Ask him about his one and only modeling gig…
He gets excited by free experiences…like visiting 3 locations of his favorite TV shows in the same year.
He is a good owner to his dog, and one day he will be an amazing father to our 13 children!
He lets me be just slightly mischievous...and he always falls for my pranks.
He is such a supportive husband, even when I decide to lead a fundraising team a couple of weeks before our wedding, just because it was important to me.
And most importantly… he has the cutest freckles ever!
With all my love, PriskaTabitha Bonus: Russell was the cutest little kid, and one day we'll have a little Rusty Jr. Who looks like this!
